Perfect for beginners as an introduction to mushroom gardening, these gorgeous mushrooms are easy to identify and have unique characteristics.
When young, they're a burgundy red wine hue, and as they mature, the caps will turn brown with chocolatey purple gills.

They're known for their large dinner plate caps and vigour in the garden, which produces heavy, tasty yields.
The mycelium runs through the garden, stimulating nutrient cycling, which feeds microbes, making them a great garden companion.

How To: mix our sawdust spawn with hydrated straw or wood chips. Use as a top dressing on an annual vegetable garden, fruit trees or other landscaping.
They are sun tolerant but prefer partial shade. In the first few weeks after introduction to the garden, water the area to prevent the substrate from going bone dry while it establishes itself.
Once established, you'll see healthy mycelium spread through your straw or wood chips. If you plant early, you'll have spring rains AND a fall harvest! Replenish the straw or wood chips every spring/fall season to continue your mushroom patch.

They aren't very picky when it comes to food sources but straw is useful to replenish nitrogen and the mycelium will consume it quicker than wood chips. Let some of your mushrooms grow to full maturity and spore over your garden to re-spawn mushroom growth!
